Shady
Origin: Zelda Universe RPG
Introduction
Shady is a friendly, mischevious Subrosian Poe who runs the Training Grounds in Hyrule Castle. At about a third of the height of a Hylian; His face is veiled in Shadow and he wears a red cape, with the only thing visible from within his veil of Shadow being the yellow glow of his gleeful go-lucky facial expressions. As part of his job, he summons illusions of scary and powerful monsters for adventurers to hone their skills on and he runs the Shady’s Shop; a portable access point to the Global Shop which he can set up virtually anywhere to give adventurers a break from questing and shop for a little while before setting off again.
He is well-loved by most of the residents in Hyrule City, but some people like the Ghost Hunter remain cynical of him. After all, he is a Poe; perhaps he could be hiding a sinister plot.

Backstory
Once a Kokiri
Long before becoming a Subrosian Poe, Shady was once a Kokiri living happily within Kokiri Forest. He was part of a family of three Kokiri; consisting of himself before he died, Summer Night before she went to the dark side and Sleepy before she became a Skull Kid. Like most wood sprites, his life was full of joy and happiness. That is, until Ganondorf attacked.
When Ganondorf’s army attacked the unprotected Kokiri Forest during the seven years where the Hero of Time was sealed away, a large proportion of village was wiped out. While Summer and Sleepy escaped the onslaught, Shady was among the victims who perished. Set ablaze by a pyromanical Fire Wizzrobe, Shady wallowed in agony in a hollow tree stump before falling all the way to Subrosia.

Becoming a Poe
Fallen into the Temple of Seasons in Subrosia, Shady’s charred body and spirit burning with anger and despair was attended to by Blaaz and Fraaz. Blaaz placed a red Subrosian cloak over while Fraaz covered his face in a veil of Shadow and then proceeded to teach Shady how to become a Subrosian Poe.
Now that Shady is now a Subrosian Poe, he has forgotten his pain and suffering he endured leading up to his death as a Kokiri and started enjoying life as a Poe; exploring the world, teasing the inhabitants of Subrosia, gathering all sorts of weird and wonderful trinkets that he sells.

The World of Hyrule Awaits
When the portal to Hyrule opened up in Subrosia, Shady was among the first to take it. However, unlike Subrosians, the residents of Hyrule City were afraid of the Poe; a suspicious shadowy figure going around the city and teasing everybody. He was quickly caught by the Hylian Guard then sent to prison. Being a Poe, he quickly phased out of prison but was then caught and locked into a magical prison by Princess Zelda herself. After confirmation of his nature from Subrosians, Shady was released.
After a week of being let out to do whatever he pleases, Shady was caught by Impa after numerous complaints from townsfolk in regards to teasing and was forcibly assigned the role of training new adventurers in the Training Grounds; where she saw Shady being able to put his talents as a Subrosian Poe to good use.

The Perfect Trainer
Not long after being assigned to train new adventurers the ropes on combat and exploration, everybody started fearing Shady. As it turns out, he can summon powerful and fierce creatures like Wizzrobes and Darknuts. However, people quickly came to realize that these monsters were merely illusions; the worst they could do is cause people to pass out. Because of these illusions, he became the first person everyone in Hyrule City turns to for training and testing their skills against monsters.
As time passed, he slowly gained the ability to create more and more complex and elaborate illusions. He learned how to set up tutorials, trials and eventually even small dungeons using just the illusions he can conjure. While he has been warned by Zelda for causing too much mental damage by accident at times, he is generally well received by the population of Hyrule City.

Monochrome Eclipse
Through the events of In the Frozen Mind’s Eye, Shady was seen out in the training grounds in a horribly twisted-looking state. He and the area immediately was completely grey and frozen in time with a strange portal behind him. This was the result of him using his Signature Skill: Monochrome Eclipse. Whatever it did, it opened a portal into his mind; which was then accessed by a party of adventurers wishing to fix the situation. They fixed the situation and snapped Shady out of Monochrome Eclipse and return everything to normal by the end of the quest.
The exact details behind why Shady cast Monochrome Eclipse is unclear, but it is likely to be related to saving Fraaz. As recalled by Fraaz in the Temple of Seasons’ Winter Dungeon, she was attacked by Summer Night and the only thing she remembered between that and her waking up in the dungeon was that Shady cast Monochrome Eclipse. This theory is reinforced by the fact that the party of adventurers brought Fraaz out alive from Shady’s Mind and recovered her to full health.

Influence of Poes
In the events of The Final Shard, Shady guided Sephiroth to the entrance of Hyrule City Catacombs. Sephiroth was able to enter the dark, corrupted ruins safely, but Shady refused to enter because he feared that the ruins could corrupt him. This indicates that, as a Subrosian Poe, that the evil part of him is dormant inside his soul which could potentially be awoken and take over him and that Hyrule City Catacombs has something in it that could potentially trigger it.
