2.0 Format Test Stuff - WindStrike - 10-22-2015

Don't mind this over here, just testin' some stuff out.

Passive
(1) Courage Booster x1
  • Point Cost: 2
  • DESCRIPTION: Increases your speed.
    • Courage: +2 per stack
(2) Power Booster x2
  • Point Cost: 2
  • DESCRIPTION: Increases your strength.
    • Power: +2 per stack
(5) Wisdom Booster x5
  • Point Cost: 2
  • DESCRIPTION: Increases your spell power.
    • Wisdom: +2 per stack
(5) Affinity Booster x1
  • Point Cost: 5
  • DESCRIPTION: Increases your proficiency bonus in a given school of spells.
    • EFFECT: You gain 1 Affinity Level in [Affinity].
(10) Darknut Strength
  • Point Cost: 10
  • DESCRIPTION: Gives you the strength of a Darknut, enabling you to carry larger items with one hand.
    • EFFECT: Two-Handed items are considered One-Handed items for you.
(10) Phasing
  • Point Cost: 10
  • DESCRIPTION: Causes you to be partially phased out of the physical dimension, similar to Wizzrobes.
    • EFFECT: You take half damage from non-Magic-based attacks
      • Light-based attacks will always deal full damage against you.

  • DESCRIPTION: Rapidly heat the air surrounding a target, burning his armor.

This wording is a bit problematic... because it does not define the specifics clear enough. So with fire bonus 2, does the target lose 9 points of armour, or 18?

If you want to cut down on lines, you can instead have it be: "Target loses an additional 3 points of armour per fire affinity level."

Or something similar. (unless you want to cap it at 9.)

Well, not everything will necessarily scale at the same rate. For example, something might scale at 5 at the first level, 8 at the second, and 11 at the third. I don't mind a few extra lines if it looks easier to read as well.

Okay, so in the draft, I was debating something. Do we want to keep Affinity Levels? Initially, I had them dropped, and how it'd work is you'd pick one affinity by default, and the effects of all spells of that affinity you have power up for you. Like this:

Burn
  • AFFINITY: Fire

      • Neutral Damage: 3
      • EFFECT: If it hits, target loses 3 Armor.
      • Fire BONUS: Target instead loses 6 Armor.



However, that meant by default, you only get access to one affinity, and a good portion of players like going multi-affinity (namely just two different affinities). So, I made a decision to just run with you can just go up level 2 on any given affinity, and by default, you get 2 affinity levels. That way, you can either go specialize in one affinity or split and go dual affinities. Like so:

Burn
  • AFFINITY: Fire

I'm still up for changing stuff, I just wanna see what the thoughts are.


EDIT: Okay, here's what an alternate system by Sephiroth might look like. It drops affinity levels, and by default, you can have maybe 2 or 3 affinity picks. If you choose to go just one affinity pick, you instead get access to an affinity innate skill. So, goin' with the Burn example, plus Fire affinity w/ the Fire Innate Skill, this is what it'd look like:

Passive
Burn Everything Down
  • REQUIREMENTS: You must have the Fire Affinity and no other Affinities for this skill to be enabled.
  • DESCRIPTION: Your Fire attacks burn through Armor better, dealing extra damage.
    • EFFECT: Your Fire attacks gain 2 Neutral Damage.
Offensive
Burn
  • AFFINITY: Fire
  • COSTS: 3 Magic
  • DESCRIPTION: Rapidly heat the air surrounding a target, burning his armor.
    • /me uses Burn on [Target]! ($[diceroll + 3]d10 vs. Wisdom), 3 Neutral Damage | Target loses [3] Armor

Plus said Innate Skill only factors in the Offensive Spells. I don't really even know what it'd be if there was one for Support Spells, because although each affinity is being more specialized, it doesn't change the fact that there's still different Support Spells. I'm a little iffy on this idea, unless the Affinity Innate Skill is something static like +3 Successes, done up across all affinities.

In regards to where the lines are. So you always look in the same location for copy paste lines. (Either at the top under name, or at the bottom after the info.)


In regards to the lines themselves I would..., hmmm.
[*]/me uses the White Sword to Slash [Target]! ($(courage+7)d10 vs. Courage), +2 Damage
[*]/me uses the White Sword to Slash [Target]! ($(#+7)d10 vs. Courage), +2 Damage
I like the colouring, but rather than having it red, I would just make it be the die type that is getting rolled.

I'm also personally a fan of shorter formats, but that might not be for everyone:
