The Two Gods - WindStrike - 04-20-2015 Credit for the idea of the Gods predating the Goddesses goes to Ramsey. I just filled in all the details and what comes after it. In The Beginning
Wars and battles between Order and Chaos have been occurring throughout Hyrule's history for countless generations. Legends of a great evil that would rise and swallow the land in darkness, while a Hero of Courage rose up to fight and defeat this chaos, restoring the land to order. However, before all of these legends is the original story... the story of Fierce Deity, origin of order, and Majora, origin of chaos.
The world that contains the dimensions of Hyrule, Termina, Subrosia, and other lands was once ruled by two gods. These two were brothers known as Fierce Deity and Majora. They were given this world so they could share it equally. However, while Fierce Deity was a control nut, Majora was a lot more loose with his control. At one point, his people ended up spreading beyond the halfway boundary, tipping the balance of power just slightly. Fierce Deity tried to take things back, but he ended up overdoing it, taking back even more than what Majora took. Then Majora retaliated, and vice versa. It started as a simple dispute, transformed into a battle, and then a war.
Eventually, Majora and Fierce Deity came to hate each other and used their full powers, decimating their own people and ravaging the lands, bringing the world to near destruction. Before they could kill each other though, a new force was brought to the lands...
With the world at the end of a reckoning, three golden goddesses descended to the world. Their first act was to prevent the war between Fierce Deity and Majora from finishing their jobs. Since they couldn't properly convince either of the two, they used a lot of their combined power to create a sealing device on the two - the Triforce. Once sealed, neither Fierce Deity or Majora could directly use their powers to influence the world and its inhabitants. Then, the goddesses used the rest of their powers to recreate the world. Din forged the lands, Farore gave it life, and Nayru created its laws. Once they finished, they ascended to the Sacred Realm, which would be their overlook for watching Hyrule and its people grow. But this would not be end of the two gods... The War Continues Across Time
While neither of the gods could have their powers escape from within the Triforce itself, both of them created relics for their respective peoples to use during their war. These relics would only provide each a small fraction of their powers, and they'd have to influence the new people of the land through possession, but in time, both sides were able to cause another war. The goddesses, unfortunately, were too weak from their acts to prevent it, so they were forced to watch for a period of time.
Majora was the first to act. His mask was picked up by a mask salesman, who traveled the world, buying and selling unique masks. However, once he picked up Majora's Mask, Majora possessed the man to prevent him from getting rid of it. In fact, he horded masks and used Majora's powers to inject the masks with possessive powers. He sold them off to various merchants around the world, which caused the creation of new monsters to rise to power.
Eventually, when he'd caused enough chaotic powers to rise, he donned the mask himself. The madness of the mask completely overwhelmed him and took his ambitions further than he'd ever dreamed of. When he fully transformed in the end, his madness prevented Majora from further controlling him, and a new being known as Ganon was born. Ganon quickly took control of all the other chaotic powers and created an army from them - Darknuts, Wizzrobes, Stalfos, and other vicious creations. He would rule the world and devour the land with this in order to eventually unseal his master, Majora.
When Ganon took control of the world through a massive army, Fierce Deity decided he'd try to counter it with an influence so small that it'd be overlooked by Ganon. Anyone that wielded the Helix Blade would be given subliminal messages by Fierce Deity, telling them to transfer it away from the war. In a remote village, away from the war, he managed to get the blade to the village's leader, a control freak that very much resembled Fierce Deity's style. This man became a plague within Ganon's forces, tinkering with the people to cause constant rebellions.
However, no one, no matter how hard they tried, could track him down. As he was a link between all the people of the land, a puppet master, yet all anyone could find was a shadow. In time, he became Dark Link. He even created a sub-realm of Hyrule called the Twili Realm, which would be home to all his shadows, called Interlopers.
Time went on, and the battle seemed never ending, though it never shook the world to destruction like the original war. Finally, the goddesses regained enough power to provide enough of their own influence to bring it to an end. Of the two sides, Ganon was still stronger, purely through sheer numbers, despite Dark Link's attempt at control and rebellion.
Among Dark Link's forces was a young warrior, one that seemed pure of heart and wanted only to bring peace to the lands. The goddesses used their powers to enchant this warrior with an unwavering Courage that could never be broken, and a mystical sword that can cut through any darkness, be it chaos or order. They named this young man Link, a man that would link together all of Hyrule with his Courage and his desire for peace. The goddesses also used their power to alter the Twili Realm to be an Imprisoning Realm, transforming the Interlopers into mere beasts, though it didn't quite work on Dark Link himself. These two things angered Dark Link to no end, hence why he and the Interlopers even now hate the Goddesses so much. Time passed, and Link was able to take down Ganon and his forces, bringing peace to Hyrule... ... for now.
No matter how much time passed, Majora would find a way to bring someone to power with madness and ambition, creating a new Ganon roughly every 100 years. And yet, that strong will of Courage would pass down from generation to generation, and the legend of a hero rising to take down the great evil would always come true. Fierce Deity would continue to usurp Majora's creations and ignore the will of the goddesses, just always having Dark Link do his own thing while also rebuilding and altering the Twili Realm. The goddesses themselves, with each war, would bring in some new element, like the Six Guardians, or the Seven Sages. War would happen only once every 100 years, never more... until Majora decided to change his tactics. Breaking the Cycle
Prior to this point, Majora kept trying to create a new Ganon, which usually took about 100 years to fully manifest for every iteration. However, he decided he'd take a page out of Fierce Deity's book, and he influenced someone within a sacred order called the Followers of Light. His name was Orland, and he served as one of the leaders to this order. The man had already secretly stolen the Black Dragon spell from the Great General Onox, and with a little persuasion from a certain mask salesman, Orland ended up covertly killing Luekke, Guardian of Light, which was the guardian the group worshipped. He later spread word about an ancient relic called the Triforce. Whoever got their hands on it would gain whatever their desire and infinite power.
Unfortunately, for the Hylians, this rumor started from Hyrule Castle, the largest power in the land at the time. It also had the Temple of Time, a place that could supposedly reach the Sacred Realm and the Triforce. This caused all the other powers in the land (Gorons, Zoras, Moblins, and Gerudo) to turn against the Hylians, starting the Hyrulean Civil War.
This war did not have a great evil called Ganon. It was simply an experiment of madness that destroyed all order in the world, causing destruction like a war started by Ganon, but without him. The war lasted for a year as a disastrous stalemate, until the Interlopers intervened. Dark Link saw a chance to finally get his hands on the Triforce, which would let him unseal Fierce Deity and gain absolute control over the world once and for all. With the even greater threat of the Interlopers gaining control of the Triforce, King Hylia managed to rally all of those that were at war and bring them together to form the Hylian Alliance. Together, with aide from the goddesses, they stopped the Interlopers from acquiring the Triforce, even severely damaging the Twili Realm, which would prevent the Interlopers from directly interfering with Hyrule ever again.
That's the theory, anyways.
90 years after Garunoff rose to power (the previous Gerudo King), the Hyrulean Civil War started. The Goddesses usually stock up power every 100 years to stop Ganon, but this time, they had to use it to stop the Interlopers, which played right into Majora's plan. 10 years later, Ganondorf rose to power, and the Goddesses were powerless to try and stop it. At best, the most they could do is give cryptic messages to the Link of this generation to try and guide him towards the path of the salvation of Hyrule. They were able to direct him towards their artifacts to aide him in the fight against Ganondorf, but that's it. As revered as the goddesses are, they're actually weak right now.
The Triforce has been used repeatedly in the fights between Order and Chaos before, but it's never been used as the Triforce of Power, the Triforce of Courage, and the Triforce of Wisdom... until the events of Ocarina of Time. This time, Majora had a foolproof way to prevent the goddesses from actually killing Ganon. He had Ganondorf acquire the Triforce of Power, who then merged with it. If Ganondorf dies, the Triforce of Power is destroyed, and if any piece of the Triforce is destroyed, the seal on Fierce Deity and Majora weakens substantially, to the point where they'll be able to break out on their own. In the end, all the goddesses could do was channel their power through the sages to seal Ganondorf and the Triforce of Power with him. More will be up later. |
