Shamelessly borrowing ideas from FATE. :P

Every X (15?) levels, a player may take on an aspect reflecting something about their character. This aspect must be a single word, and should reflect either a character trait or something relevant to the character. Preferably, the aspect should be related to the recent events the character has gone through, and should reflect that which impacted the character most.

For example, say a character spent much of the last X levels helping the Kokiri weed a great evil out of the forest. Your character worked alongside a Kokiri companion, Tazio. This character could choose aspects such as 'Forestry', 'Woodsman', or 'Tazio' (representing the influence of Tazio). He could also choose to play to his patient personality during the ordeal, with aspects such as 'Patience' or 'Soft-spoken'.

What are Aspects used for?

Aspects are partially used to help define major points about your character, and can help give a picture of what identifies them.

But, more practically, Aspects can be used to provide one-shot boosts or rerolls! If you think one of your character's Aspects could alter a roll you're making, you can explain your reasoning to the DM. If he agrees that the Aspect applies, you successfully invoke your Aspect, and you have one of two choices:
  1. You get a free reroll; unlike reroll points, though, this can only be applied to your own rolls.
  2. Add one success to a result.
Once an Aspect has been invoked (successfully or not), you cannot invoke it again until either the end of the session or a point of rest (as determined by the DM).
