I streamlined my X-Chat Logging - WindStrike - 11-15-2014

Editing extraneous stuff out of logs is rather annoying, especially how long logs can get. This kind of stuff is "user joined channel", "topic is blah set by blah" every time you join, "user changed name to blah", etc. I decided to peak through X-Chat to see if there was a way to disable it, and there is.

All of these things are called "Text Events". You can find it by going to Settings --> Advanced --> Text Events. Each event listed will display each event possible and then what each one does. Hitting "Save As..." in the bottom-left will create a copy of all current text events you have set. You might want to make a backup before altering anything.

What I've done, in order to make logging quests easier and just in general, drop all the extra stuff, is eliminate the text caused by several events. To do so, select an event, wipe out the code text in the text box, and hit enter to finalize the change to that event. I've wiped out the following events from my Text Events, starting from the top of the list:
  • Change Nick
  • Channel DeHalfOp
  • Channel DeOp
  • Channel DeVoice
  • Channel Half-Operator
  • Channel Mode Generic
  • Channel Operator
  • Channel Voice
  • Join
  • Quit
  • Topic
  • Topic Creation
  • You Join
  • Your Nick Changing

This is the majority of the common events that happen a lot. I kept Kick in, and even if Sephiroth does 20 kicks in a row now, it'll just spout out 20 kick lines to me like this:
  • * Sephiroth kicks DM out the window.
    * You have been kicked from #zuchat by Sephiroth (You have been kicked out the window and you landed in your hard disk drive! Watch out for that boot sector! «17,225»)
    * Now talking on #zuchat
    * Topic for #zuchat is: Teamspeak 3 - http://www.teamspeak.com/ | Teamspeak Server Info: - http://zurpg.sephiroth.ws/thread-549.html
    * Topic for #zuchat set by Sephiroth at Tue Jun 10 17:19:36 2014
    * ChanServ sets mode +a #zuchat DM
    * ChanServ gives channel operator status to DM

Though, majority of kick lines are supposed to go to #zuchat.

This should be helpful for anyone else that wants to get rid of the extra stuff for logging quests, or just in general. Keep in mind, this was written up for X-Chat 2.
