12-7-13: Prelude - WindStrike - 11-30-2013
From Kakariko Village comes Joseph Lightwall, a Half-Hylian/Half-Zora man looking to become part of the Hylian Guard. He meets with Kappa Yagami, a Sheikah that also wants to be in the guard. They head to the barracks together and meet Lord Eldin, head of the Hylian Guard and one of the last remaining members of the Royal Family. As an “entry exam”, he gives them a quest to seek out an herbalist by the name of Goswin and find out what he’s been up to lately, as been rather sketchy.
After getting some directions from Monroe, they find Goswin’s house near the center of the Southwestern District. However, it seems tattered, and the door is hanging off its hinges. They heard yelling and beating from inside, and after a bit of tact, they manage to defeat two thugs. They find Goswin in a beaten state, and before they’re able to investigate further, they’re chased away by more thugs. The group reaches the end of an alleyway and ends up going through the wall.
Upon going through the wall, Joseph Lightwall, Kappa Yagami, and Goswin are met by a black-robed woman with a tall witch’s hat. She leads them out of the area and to her house, which looks like a potion shop. When she takes the hat off, he becomes much shorter, and she reveals herself to be the Kokiri Witch. It turns out Goswin was seeking her for some reason related to something called Baneroot, a poisonous herb that’s actually illegal. Goswin had acquired it recently when he was attacked by thugs. The only other person that knew he had it was his friend, Lordan, a priest that runs a church off the Western Road.
Lightwall and Kappa head out to talk to Eldin and Monroe about it. Monroe outright dismisses them, while Eldin tells them that he knows that Goswin knows it’s illegal, so he wants to know why Goswin acquired it. Lightwall and Kappa then head to the church. They’re met there by Lordan. After talking to him about Goswin, Lordan becomes unsteady and rather suspicious. He tries to preach the Laws of Nayru’s Wisdom, and as he does, he drops his key to the backroom. Then, a man with a staff appears from the backroom along with two thugs. The group manages to lock them all into the backroom, and from there, they attempt to escape the church. Kappa escapes, but Lightwall ends up getting trapped in by two armored thugs.
Cornered by the thugs, Joseph Lightwall gets ready to fight for his life, when a chair hiding over a man appears. His name is Garrett Ironfist, a tall man with great strength. He accidentally throws the chair when he stands, which ends up trapping the men in the backroom further. Together, Lightwall and Garrett fight and defeat the thugs.
As Joseph Lightwall and Garrett Ironfist try to escape the church, the man with a staff tells them to bring Goswin within an hour, or he’d kill the priest. The two of them are met by a scene of Eldin corning a group of possessed guards. They ask if they should go with the demand, and he angrily agrees. Afterwards, they head to the Kokiri Witch’s place. Goswin hears about his friend Lordan in danger and agrees to head with them.
They return to the church with Goswin. The man with the staff reveals his name to be Daedalus. He wears white robes with the symbol of the Triforce on them, with the upper shard shining in a bright blue. They fight Daedalus and his thugs and defeat them, saving Lordan in the process. Goswin reveals to them that he did have more Baneroot after all, but he intended to use it to produce a cure.
Lightwall and Garrett report to Eldin the next morning, telling him the details of the quest and why Goswin was after the Baneroot. Eldin offers them a position into the guard, but he gives them a warning. He tells them about a group called The Followers of Wisdom, a highly religious group that’s managed to possess a third of the Hylian Guard through unknown means. “Something is stirring within Hyrule Castle… I just hope we’re ready by the time it arises.” Heading the warning, Lightwall and Garrett decide not to join, but Eldin tells them that he’d gladly request their services in the future.
<Lightwall> So... what's your name? (Technically, Lightwall hasn't heard Kappa say his name yet.)
<Kappa> My name is Kapper, Lightwall
<DM> (Kapper?)
<Kappa> *Kappa
<DM> My voice is Typos, Lightwall.
* DM runs.
* Kappa trips DM from behind the 4th wall
<DM> *Something on the other side hits the door with a slam. It budges slightly, but nothing more. The slam is followed by a whimper.*
<???> ffffffffffffffffffff
<???> MAH LEG! AUGH!
<Lightwall> Are you all right in there?
<???> Augh, me's good, me's alllllright! Nothin' ta worry 'bout! It's uhh... it's me leg, uhh errr.... me hurted it five years back, me foot hit Ganondorf cross da face, yeah, that's it!
<???> Umm, err... Ganondorfy, yeah, he had a reeeeaaaal hard face, ya know? It hurt reeeeeaal bad.
<Lightwall> That's true, I live in ... a different town.
<???> Eh, Kakriko?
* Lightwall smirks.
<Lightwall> Good guess.
<???> Wat?! Daww.... errr... Kokri?
<???> Ooh, me's knows! Moron City!
* Lightwall couldn't help laughing.
<Lightwall> No! You were right the first time!
<DM> *The other voice remarks - "Duhh, me thinks yous meant uhh... Goron Shi-*
<???> Oh, so Crackriko, eh?
* Lightwall giggles lightly.
<???> Dat's where me brother raised me. He raised me... ta be a sailor!
<???> Don'tchu laughs at me ya little twerp!
<Lightwall> Whoah! Okay! Sorry about that!
<Lightwall> Did you say a sailor?
<???> Dat's it, you's laughin' at me, den yous gonna feels da pain!
* Lightwall tenses his body.
* Lightwall holds tightly to the hilt of his sword in case this gets ugly.
<DM> *You hear another slam on the door as it swings open, revealing a thug-like man careening to the floor as he holds his leg in agony. The door quickly swings back and knocks him backwards before falling off its hinges completely, landing right next to you, Lightwall.*
<Thug> D'AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGHHH
* Lightwall draws his sword, ready for a fight.
<DM> *Another thug comes up next to this thug. He isn't as injured, and he cracks his knuckles.*
* Thug2 looks to his partner.
<Thug2> Did ya seriously fail ta kick a door down?
<Thug1> Dat door is painful, ya see!
* Lightwall almost chuckles, but holds his composure.
* Thug2 looks Lightwall up and down and laughs.
<Thug2> Hah, he's got a liddle swordy, bet 'e can't hurt nothin' without it, eh eh?
<Thug1> So long as 'e ain't got a door...
<Lightwall> No, we just wanted to talk to you.
<Kappa> Yeah.
<Goswin> Talk?
* Goswin looks down at the thug that was stabbed, whose corpse is now soaking the doorstep in blood.
<Goswin> You call THIS talking?!
<Goswin> What the hell is this?!
<DM> *Lightwall, you notice a tall, bearded man attempting to stay hidden under one of the chairs.*
<DM> *6" 8'. That's how tall we're talkin'. He tries to hide under it, but he's too big, so the chair is actually resting on his back, with the legs hovering just above the ground.*
<DM> *The Thugs also see the big, burly bearded man.*
<Thug1> Hey! Yous birdy guy! Who's dat hidin' under... da.... chair?
<Thug2> Is dat even hoidin'?
<Lightwall> Um, I don't know.
<DM> *This is how science works apparently. Chairs hiding over people.*
<Garrett> "Blast! Seems my attempt at a dramatic entrance was foiled! No matter." Stands up throwing the chair back. "Ah ha!!"
<DM> *Right as the locked door in the back is broken open, the man with the staff is about to walk into the open when a chair is suddenly thrown at the door, slamming it in his face and locking the door.*
<DM> *You hear cursing from the backroom.*
<Thug1> wait, whys does you not seems to be gettin' hurts
<DM> *Because Garrett is a durable douche. And I dedouche you will die soon.*
* Garrett laughs and beats his chest. "Because I drank my milk every day as a child!"
* Lightwall thinks to himself, "Because I don't let it show, you freak!"
<DM> *........... that too.*
* DM is thwacked across the head! His neck causes an audible snapping noise as he thunks to the ground before the holy might of Milk-drinking Garrett from a town where they got milk from the moon! At least I hope not. That'd be weird.
<DM> wait
<DM> WAIT
<DM> WAAAAAAAAAAAIT
* Thug1 is thwacked across the head! His neck causes an audible snapping noise as he thunks to the ground before the holy might of Milk-drinking Garrett from a town where they got milk from the moon! At least I hope not. That'd be weird.
<DM> I HOPE I DIDN'T JUST DIE
<DM> PEOPLE DIE IF THEY ARE KILLED
<Garrett> "Ah ha! You find yourself alone smelly knave!"
<DM> (Garrett, just because you can kill me in real life doesn't mean you need to when rolls are unfavorable.)
<Lightwall> (lol)
Thug2> Grr... why yous....
< Thug2> Me's gonna THROW YE!
* Thug2 fails to pick up the tiny Lightwall before him as early arthritis kicks in.
< Lightwall> (Ooh! Maybe I is too heavy for yous!)
< DM> (That would imply you're fat)
< Thug2> Ergh!
< Thug2> 6h | Early Arthritis. Thug2 has -1 dice on all rolls.
* Lightwall throws his boomerang at Thug2.
* Thug2 sidesteps the boomerang as it hits an ornament above the doorway before returning to Lightwall. The ornament itself, though, falls on Thug2's head, dealing 1 damage.
< Thug2> 5h | Early Arthritis
< Lightwall> (It's all about what you're aiming at!)
< DM> *Garret, your broken-off club slams against Thug2's hardened resolve... and breaks.*
< DM> *Your broken club now has a new effect!
< DM> *Power +2 vs. Power / Damage is halved. Causes bleeding on hit*
< Thug2> WHY DOES GOD HATES ME SO?!
< DM> *I love how you're asking that in a church run by a senile old man who got himself locked in his own backroom.*
* Garrett looks at the broken club. "No matter! I shall defeat you even I must resort to my nails and teeth!"
* Thug2 slices Garrett across the chest..... HE'S STILL NOT DEAD
< Lightwall> (  )
< Thug2> 7 - 2 = 5 damage - defense
< DM> (NICE HEARTS BRO)
< Thug2> WOOOOOOTTTTTTT
* Garrett is still standing. "A mere flesh wound!"
* Thug2 gets an aneurysm from Garrett not dying and takes 1 damage and gets a stack of internal bleeding.
< Garrett> 2h 2m
< Thug2> WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
< Thug2> 4h | Early Arthritis | Internal Bleeding
< DM> * Lightwall is thrown at Garrett, who lightly bounces you off his shield. Lightwall, you take 2/2 = 1 damage - defense
< Thug2> Wait, that did nothin'?
< Thug2> WOT?
< Thug2> WOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTT
* Thug2 gets another stack of internal bleeding.
< Thug2> 4h | Early Arthritis | Internal Bleeding x2
< Garrett> "Nobody hurls my friends like projectiles!" Garrett swings upward with the broken club, aiming for the thug's family jewels!
<Garrett> 7 - 5 = 2/1 = 1
* DM proceeds to die.
<Garrett> "I never said math was my strong suit."
* DM just.... collapses under the strain of reconstitution from his brain imploding on itself.
<Thug2> Wait, wait wait...
<Thug2> so dat did...
<Garrett> 7 - 5 = 2/2 = 1
<DM> *Garrett and Thug2, roll Wisdom*
<Garrett> $2d10
<Tatl> Garrett: You rolled 2 Dice with 10 Sides. Result: 10 and 10. Total: 20. Successes: 4.
<Thug2> $1d10
<Tatl> Thug2: You rolled 1 Die with 10 Sides. Result: 10. Total: 10. Successes: 2.
<DM> WHAT
<DM> WHAT
<DM> WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT
<DM> HOW
* Thug2 fails to understand Garrett's math... and attempts to do the math himself.
* Lightwall casts a spell through the fourth wall and heals DM completely.
* DM is undead. He dies. Again.
<Thug2> So dat 7 gots a nasty pointy sharp point, so its just gonna me 5sies through the 'ead, and dat's why 2 is divisible by 1 and makes me take.... 2 damage! Yaysies!
<Thug2> ........ wait
* Thug2 bleeds out after getting bashed by a parade of 10s. Cause. What.
* DM forces Thug2 to explode after he himself explodes from that.
<Lightwall> ... yeah, he's a hostage to some guy with a staff.
<Goswin> .. w-what must I do?
<Goswin> I do not know of a man with a staff.
<DM> *Gandalf smiles from beyond the fourth wall.*
<Lightwall> (lol)
<DM> *He puts on sunglasses, tips his hat down, and walks away in style.*
* Garrett swings the axe at Daedalus again. (Roll Power)
<Navi> Garrett: You rolled 10 Dice with 10 Sides. Result: 5, 8, 10, 10, 1, 5, 7, 7, 6 and 8. Total: 67. Successes: 11.

<Lightwall> ( O_O )
<Lightwall> ( OoO )
<DM> *Your axe literally causes Daedalus to explode on impact as your super axe of doom cleaves through him. There's a defeaning boom as the church's wrecked podium turns red.*
* Lightwall feels grateful Garrett bought that axe!
* Lightwall blinks and shudders at the sight of red, but regains his composure quickly.
* Garrett cleaves on to strike Thug1
<Navi> Thug1: You rolled 7 Dice with 10 Sides. Result: 9, 2, 7, 2, 3, 4 and 4. Total: 31. Successes: 2.

* Thug1 dies with his master as Garrett apparently used whirlwind with his axe.
<Thug2> $7d10
<Navi> Thug2: You rolled 7 Dice with 10 Sides. Result: 9, 3, 10, 4, 10, 3 and 3. Total: 42. Successes: 5.
<Garrett> 6 - 5 = 1 + 2 = 3
<DM> *Garrett succeeds in the Triple Slicing Whirlwind of Deadly Death technique, as he fells the last thug with his insanely god-tier axe. A light descends onto Garrett from above. KEESE AND CO. and the church's worshipped one come down briefly to give you a high-five.*
<DM> (just... good lord man)
- * Thug1 gets back up but immediately leans on the wall to support himself up. The slash from the jar fragment runs from cheek to cheeck, crossing through a part of his nose. The blood runs down his mouth and to his neck as he falls back down, getting dizzier.
- <Thug1> Curse... ya... Goswin....
* Thug1 passes out across the floor.
- * Thug2 is gutted by Lightwall's sword as it pierces straight through his leather armor. Blood gushes out his mouth onto your shoulders as he falls to the ground in a collapsed heap.
- * Thug1 is thwacked across the head! His neck causes an audible snapping noise as he thunks to the ground before the holy might of Milk-drinking Garrett from a town where they got milk from the moon! At least I hope not. That'd be weird.
- * Thug2 bleeds out after getting bashed by a parade of 10s. Cause. What.
- * DM forces Thug2 to explode after he himself explodes from that.
- * Lightwall falls to the floor. Suddenly, a fairy flies out and heals him. Lightwall gets back up.
- <DM> *Your axe literally causes Daedalus to explode on impact as your super axe of doom cleaves through him. There's a defeaning boom as the church's wrecked podium turns red.*

- <DM> *Garrett, big man you are. Indian legs, you have not. Clearly, you were an adventurer once, and your knees were disabled in a freak accident involving trolls that could send people to the sun. You lived miraculously from that incident, but never more will you be able to run.*
- <Garrett> "Nobody hurls my friends like projectiles!"
- <Thug2> So dat 7 gots a nasty pointy sharp point, so its just gonna me 5sies through the 'ead, and dat's why 2 is divisible by 1 and makes me take.... 2 damage! Yaysies!

RE: Prelude (Newbie Quest) - Lightwulf - 11-30-2013
Cool! I'll keep an eye out for it.
RE: Prelude (Newbie Quest) - WindStrike - 12-05-2013
So this weekend, I'm running it on Friday and Saturday, both times at 4:00pm CST (times listed at the top of the site in your timezone, if your timezone is set correctly), and it'll be full length, so expect about 2.5 hours of time. Pick whichever one you can make and just show up! I'm not gearing the quest towards any particular player amounts, so I'll run it whether there's 1 or 5 people and then just adjust things as necessary.

These are similar to thugs, although these were once Hylian Guards. They all have different stories, but most of them are poor soldiers that refused to keep up the reformation of the guard, and they now live as drunkards that aren't nearly as strong as the new guards. They still attempt to impose the law, though it often ends with them breaking the law themselves out of their own, lost sense of justice.

RE: 12-7-13: Prelude - Lightwulf - 02-24-2014
I didn't think this should go in Chat Quotes, so I'm putting it here. (BTW, I have NO idea why I capitalized the W in Lightwall!)
<StellyMcFlowers> Stelly McGroovin' Jellolappus Flowery Fire Moo!
<StellyMcFlowers> That's me name!
LightWall chuckles.
<Garrett> "Ah! Truly a name that will be sung in legends to come!"
<StellyMcFlowers> I have no idea what my name is, so I change it every few hours. For the lulz. Teehee!
<DM> (I swear, if Dex barges in suddenly and sings a song LIKE HE DID LAST NIGHT with that name, I will punch myself full force in the face)
RE: 12-7-13: Prelude - WindStrike - 02-24-2014
Huh, odd that I didn't throw that into the moments, lol.
By the way Lightwulf, I apologize for my absence regarding the next quest you'll be on... I'm currently dealing with various job stuffs (real life) and still wrecking havoc with that darn Hyrule Village map, so expect something next week, and I'll see who can join, given your limited timeslot.
RE: 12-7-13: Prelude - Lightwulf - 02-24-2014
Meh, it's cool! I've been busy with schoolwork, myself, so I needed a break from ZURPG to get caught up. Worked out nicely, I think.
